Why Georgetown? Why, Georgetown? Why?
Alumni interview is required,
But it’s not making me feel inspired.
Can’t shake the butterflies I’ve acquired.
Do know that you are to be inquired!
Exactly what can I be offered now?
Forget that Georgetown will, upon me, endow
Great insight so that I can take a bow,
Halfway to a successful cash cow.
International Studies is the goal,
Just studying aimlessly in a hole,
Keenly awaiting a chance to cajole
Law School souls into giving me a role.
My excitement to leave high school behind
Never slipped my blind empire state of mind.
Opportunities arrive unassigned.
Politics and Georgetown are totes affined.
Quality can’t hide through a sea of schools.
Really hoping I don’t become a fool,
So, I prepare to embark on a journey for jewel,
Though I don’t want to just become a tool.
Until I make my leap onto campus,
Vanity is in my hippocampus.
Wholeheartedly hoping that the madness
X-rays and scans my entire canvas.
You and I must wait and see the day when
Zheng submits the application, amen.

Writing this poem helped calm my fears. I had an interview for Georgetown the next day and I wasn’t prepared for it at all. Simultaneously, the deadline to submit new pieces was coming up and I started combining some of the information together into a poem. Initially, I began writing stanzas of poetry before I noticed a pattern that every line started with the next letter in the alphabet. I was about four or five lines into the poem before I made the conscious decision to finish the poem with the pattern and order it goes in. Without realizing it, I finished the poem and prepared for my Georgetown interview together. (I showed my Georgetown interviewer a copy of the poem and she thought it was hilarious and amazing). Essentially, I killed two birds with one stone, but nobody likes killing birds, so shhhhhhhh.
