Exhausted
Because it’s not even ten o’clock in the evening
and I’m resisting my eyes from shutting down.
I’ve been without sleep for less than fifteen hours,
yet, it’s like I’ve been sleep-deprived for longer.
Because I’m tightly gripping onto the wall during swim practice
after a physically demanding and exhausting set of 200s.
While I’m panting and barely keeping afloat in the pool,
my coach is smirking and readying for the next set.
But, most importantly, because I don’t allow myself to relax
and even though it’s the day after a long holiday break,
I can’t seem to function like a fully-rested person should.
That’s just the perks of being exhausted.
